Desiccated Thyroid Compound

Desiccated Thyroid (DEH-suh-kay-tuhd THIGH-royd) is an extract derived from dried porcine (pig) thyroid gland tissue. Desiccated thyroid contains both T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) and other triiodothyronine compounds. It may be given to patients who no longer produce a sufficient amount of thyroid hormones on their own. It may be used to manage an enlarged thyroid gland. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
