Who May Benefit From testosterone replacement?
Testosterone supplementation may be a beneficial treatment for:
Women with low testosterone
A woman with low testosterone may not produce enough to support healthy red blood cell production, maintain a robust sex drive, or preserve bone density. She may also struggle with losing fat and building muscle. While lab values can help identify low levels, the numbers alone don’t tell the full story. As with men, hormonal balance matters just as much as the absolute level. The goal of hormone replacement therapy is to ensure the right ratio of estrogens to androgens so she can manage symptoms effectively and support overall health and wellbeing.
Men with low testosterone
Although testosterone levels can vary widely from person to person, low testosterone generally refers to levels that fall below what is considered normal for adult men. Suboptimal levels can arise from natural aging as well as chronic health conditions such as liver or kidney disease, type II diabetes, autoimmune or inflammatory disorders, and infections or injuries that affect the testes.
Boys who are late starting puberty
Testosterone can stimulate puberty in boys who have hormone deficiencies contributing to delayed development.
Breast cancer survivors
Studies have shown that testosterone, in combination with a low dose of anastrozole, may help relieve menopausal symptoms in breast cancer survivors for whom estrogen therapy is contraindicated.
