What is Phenylephrine HCL ?

Phenylephrine HCL is a direct‑acting alpha‑adrenergic medication that mainly affects blood vessels. It works by tightening the blood vessels in penile tissue, which may help reduce trapped blood and reverse the poor drainage seen in ischemic priapism. Because it can affect blood pressure and circulation, it should be used carefully, especially in men with heart-related conditions.

Phynylephrine is given by intracavernous injection when priapism occurs after erectile‑dysfunction medications. Phenylephrine may also be used for erections lasting more than 4 to 6 hours, with or without aspiration, and must be used cautiously in men with a history of priapism or blood disorders.
