What is Niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and a precursor to NAD+, supports cellular energy and metabolic processes. In dermatology, it is commonly used for mild to moderate acne due to its anti-inflammatory and sebum‑regulating properties, and it is also utilized in conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, melasma, sun damage, and other pigmentation concerns.

Niacinamide is thought to strengthen the skin barrier by supporting ceramide production, keratin synthesis, and overall hydration, while remaining well tolerated across diverse skin types. Unlike other niacin forms, it does not cause vasodilation or hypolipidemic effects, and it contributes to normal tissue respiration, lipid metabolism, and glycogenolysis as part of the body’s natural coenzyme systems.
