What is Diazepam?
Diazepam is a long‑acting benzodiazepine that works by strengthening the effects of GABA, the body’s primary calming neurotransmitter, which helps nerves fire less easily. By increasing the flow of chloride ions into nerve cells, it makes muscle tissue more relaxed and less reactive, reducing involuntary tightening and spasms.
Because of these effects, diazepam can be used in topical or vaginal suppository form to help with high‑tone pelvic floor dysfunction and spasms of the levator ani muscles. It may also ease pelvic pain, painful intercourse (dyspareunia), and symptoms related to conditions such as vulvodynia, vaginismus, or interstitial cystitis. Both men and women may use this therapy to help with bladder or bowel problems linked to pelvic muscle tension and myofascial pain.
