Desiccated thyroid is a naturally derived product made from dried porcine thyroid glands and provides approximately 9 mcg of T3 and 38 mcg of T4 per grain. It influences the body by regulating DNA transcription and protein synthesis, which raises the basal metabolic rate and supports the growth and maturation of many tissues through the mobilization of glycogen stores.
It is mainly used as a replacement or supplemental option for individuals with hypothyroidism who do not respond well to T4‑only products. It may also be used to lower TSH levels in conditions such as thyroid nodules or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
