What is Bremelanotide Acetate?
Bremelanotide is a nonselective melanocortin receptor agonist that activates several types of receptors, including the MC4 receptor in the central nervous system, to influence brain pathways involved in sexual response. In women, it is mainly used to address acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal patients by increasing sexual desire and reducing related distress.
Studies in men suggest that bremelanotide may stimulate erectile responses by acting on the hypothalamus, showing it may offer an alternative treatment option for erectile dysfunction with fewer risks than some existing therapies.
